Athletic's Union Ball

Every year, the AU presents awards to students who have shown an exemplary standard in contribution with their respective sports.  The awards are as follows:

Half Colours - Students who have represented their club at county level or shown high level or playing ability.

Full Colours - Have represented their club or university at National level or have shown exceptional playing ability.

Purples - Have represented the English Universities or a higher equivalent, like World University Games.

This year, I'm proud to annouce the AU will be awarding 5 recipients from the club for an award at the AU Ball.  The recipients are:

Shao Chen Li (Nick) - Half Colours
Medal Tally:
1 Silver (Midlands Open)
3 Bronzes (Leeds Student Nationals X2, Dorset Open)

Tian Ying (Lily) - Full Colours
Medal Tally:
1 Gold (Leeds Student Nationals)
1 Silver (Midlands Open)

Jack Miles - Full Colours

1 Gold (Leeds Student Nationals)
1 Bronze (Midlands Open)

Dimitri Batrouni - Full Colours

Stephen Burt - Full Colours

3 Silvers (Dorset Open, Leeds Student Nationals, Midlands Open)

The AU Ball should be a good night to remember and personally would like to see more of the club members attend.  Furthermore, this would be a good opportunity to make your club be seen by others in the Athletic Union and not be dominated by the likes of the Big 4 (Rugby, Football, Hockey, Netball).

Non-BUSA Team of the year!

Hurray! After a year of hard work and training the AU has recognised our efforts and awarded the club with the non BUSA Team of the Year trophy (as pictured below).

The Taekwondo club also had 5 individual awards for members who had shown high performances in competitions that they had attended throughout the year; basically they had won at least 1 gold medal in their category.

Steve, Jack, Lily and Dimitri all received the Full Colours award and Nick received a Half Colours award, which was presented to them by England Rugby player Danny Grewcock (he’s a bigger boy).

Everyone had a great time at the ball and got rather drunk later on at the Union to some most good performances by Tom Jones and the Rat Pack, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

So Good Job guys, especially Fab and keep up the good work for the year to come!
